Today I will be reviewing the amazing Finnabair Art Extravagance Rust Effect Paste by Prima. When I first heard that Finnabair was releasing a Rust Effect Paste I was quietly doing a happy dance as I am sure most that love the rusted effect would have been.
So what exactly is it? It is an opaque thick paste that will give a matte, rust-like finish. It is water-based, archival-safe, and non-toxic so it is safe to use on all of your craft projects. The Rust Paste comes in a set giving you three different colours of paste: brown, orange and yellow. Once applied it gives a very authentic rusty appearance to projects while also adding dimension.
The rust paste can be applied to any surface, you could add rusted effects to metals, chipboard, papers, and more, it is only limited to your imagination. Once the rust paste dries, it provides a permanent hard surface that still remains flexible. To create the best rust effect possible it is should be applied with a sponge palette knife, texture tool or paintbrush.
To give you a little taste of what this product can do I am going to share 2 projects that I created with it. The first is an altered lantern, the lantern is metal and it is embellished with Dusty Attic Chipboard and Prima flowers. As you can see the rust paste blended everything seamlessly.
I coated the lantern entirely with the dark brown rust paste first, applying more to certain areas to build more texture. I then applied some of the orange rust paste to only a few areas and then lightly spritzed with water to help blend and make the paste more moveable.
The next project is an altered paintbrush. I used the same steps as the lantern but this time I primed the brush and embellishments with Black Gesso before I started just to fill in any holes I might have missed with the rust paste.Would you ever believe that this is made of cardboard and wood? So if you haven’t gotten to try the Finnabair Rust Paste and think it is something that you would like to try why not pick yourself up some from your nearest retail stockist and give it a try, it is seriously addictive!
